Dear Glenn Greenwald,

"Verizon and AT&T said it was not their role to second-guess the legitimacy of emergency government requests."

Shhhhhhhh,

what was particularly interesting to me about this news that the phone companies want to do the right thing and save lives (and not let old-fashioned customs like "court orders" stand in the way)is that they are providing "second generation" information - not just "who is this person of interest" and "who is this person of interest calling" but even "who are the people being called by the people called by the person of interest"

it wouldn't be unreasonable for a person to assume that ANY phone call they make is subject to being listened to, again and again, if some reason for it to be monitored comes to the attention of the Department of Fatherland Security

as ari fleischer warned us, "watch what you say"
