A Cooking Vessel Noting the Color of a Cooking Vessel

[W]henever liberals hear conservatives or libertarians talk about race they automatically leap to images of Nazism or Fascism when virtually all serious or mainstream rightwing thinkers endorse, at most, benign neglect AKA colorblindness. You can take exception to such arguments, even passionate exception, but it is outrageous to suggest that Murray or Bill Bennett (remember his Freakonomics hypothetical?) or pretty much any other conservative or libertarian worthy of the label wants to use state power to oppress or eliminate minorities. It is a slanderous projection of liberal biases onto conservatives and it has been with us since the days when Herbert Spencer was demonized for being a radical liberal.

-Goldberg!
Now there are at least two jokes here, so I'll just hurry on to the punchlines. Exhibit A:
Wanted: Herbert Spencer Expert [Jonah Goldberg]

I'm working on a chapter of the book which requires me to read a lot about and by Herbert Spencer. There's simply no way I can read all of it, nor do I really need to. But if there are any real experts on Spencer out there — regardless of ideological affiliation — I'd love to ask you a few questions in case I'm missing something.
Aaaaaaaannnnnnd, B:

Puzzled.

Goldberg notes that people on the left often unfairly smear people on the right as "fascists" or "nazis" when there is no real connection. Contrariwise, one gathers that his forthcoming book will argue that the ideological connections between fascism and modern liberalism are quite real.

Is there supposed to be some inconsistency here?

Who's the fucking nihilists here?

What an odd comment that last one was.

Presumably, either "the" shouldn't be there, or the "s" at the end of "nihilists."

But even corrected, either way, it would still be an odd comment.

Steve, the comment is a quote from "The Big Lebowski".

Donny: Are these the Nazis, Walter?
Walter Sobchak: No, Donny, these men are nihilists, there's nothing to be afraid of.
Nihilist: Ve don't care. Ve still vant ze money, Lebowski, or ve fuck you up.
Walter Sobchak: Fuck you. Fuck the three of you.
The Dude: Hey, cool it Walter.
Walter Sobchak: No, without a hostage, there is no ransom. That's what ransom is. Those are the fucking rules.
Nihilist #2: His girlfriend gave up her toe!
Nihilist #3: She thought we'd be getting million dollars!
Nihilist #2: [Whining] Iss not fair!
Walter Sobchak: FAIR?! WHO'S THE FUCKING NIHILISTS HERE!! WHAT ARE YOU, A BUNCH OF FUCKING CRYBABIES?!
The Dude: Hey, cool it Walter. Look, pal, there never was any money. The big Lebowski gave me an empty briefcase, so take it up with him, man.
Walter Sobchak: And, I would like my undies back.

scruggs: ah. Well, that would explain it, then.
