What we need is a concerted campaign to demand of our Democratic "leaders" an answer to the question: "What is the real reason you are so cowardly and unwilling to hold this administration to account and stop the bleeding?" What is the real reason that "impeachment is off the table"? What is the real reason why you keep passing bills that make America into a dictatorship, continue the disastrous occupation of Iraq, and piss off the whole country?Dear Avedon,

Democrats want to make America into a dictatorship. Democrats want to continue the occupation of Iraq. Democrats don't care what you think.

They just don't get it. They're still waiting for their Democratic superheroes to swoop in and save the day.
Franklin Delano as Tony Stark as Iron Man!
gracias.
Normally one has to go to Digby for something that utterly clueless.
I no longer believe the bull goose opinion leader progs really wonder why their Dems do 'em like they do. They've read the classic analyses and are not at all shy about borrowing from them.
Their cries of outrage and dismay come like clockwork when the rank and file starts citing libertarians, anarchists, paleocons and socialists in defense of actually doing something. It's diversionary outrage on their part; the one thing progs actually do well. They assimilate part of the critique, water it down, add olestra and feed it to the restless folks in the cheap seats. Then they snarl hard to their right and snap viciously to their left -- to retain a place in the authoritarian center for another election cycle. There are few people less enamored of a liberal democratic republic than they.

You're giving them much too much credit. Only a small number have that much gumption. For most of them, their main concern is just holding onto their sweet, sweet sinecures and feeling important at local ribbon-cuttings.
Of course, they'll be happy to stand aside while you're sent you to a gulag in the high sierras if that's what's required. But it's a point of principle only for a few.
I disagree that their jobs take little effort or gumption. You just don't understand what they go through on a day by day basis. Have you ever tried to sit through an hour of Mitch McConnell droning on and on about this that and the other? Or trying to figure out what a Farm Bill does? Or talking to your "electorate" and having to pretend you care about Iraq or campaign finance reform or steroids in baseball whatever the latest BS issue of the day might be? It's understandable why they're paid large sums of cash and given access to strapping teenage boys.
Tony Stark drank a lot.
OTOH, those repulsar rays of his could come in quite handy.
