Perhaps I'm misreading, but it appears that when Amy Sullivan says that abortion is no longer the only issue that really affects the choices of "Christian voters", what she's actually saying is that abortion is the only issue that really affects the choices of Christian voters.
On a somewhat related note, to the question of, "How would Jesus Vote?" I must say that I've read the Bible a bit, and it does not occur to me that Jesus would vote.

perhaps.
i thought her claim was that there are christians who don't treat a candidate's position on abortion as make or break. in other words, there are christians who have come to view abortion as a potential cut-off-the-nose-to-spite-the-face issue.
i'm more curious to know what she means by "reaching out" to christian groups. i'd suppose it means framing other issues within the context of religion--e.g., environmental stewardship as part of christian stewardship.
"...it does not occur to me that Jesus would vote."
Exactly. Vernard Eller, a Christian anarchist, put it this way:
"...no program of human power politics can be the method of social justice--in that sinful humanity is simply incapable of exercising impositional power without being corrupted by it."
And I don't think you have to buy into the full "original sin" package (I certainly don't) to agree with this. Thousands of years of human experience with government should be enough to convince one.
In general, puppylander, in politics "reaching out" means "conceding to."
But more importantly, WWJB? He'd certainly post that you should render unto the US government what is the US government's.
a boy can dream.

This is one area where Duncan Black has actually been useful, IMHO. He usually does a good job of mocking this silly moron for her constant attempts to convince Democrats that if only they'd jettison things like abortion rights and that pesky separation of church and state thingy, they'd attract some mythical swing voters who supposedly have all these genuine liberal values, but keep voting Republican for the overt pandering to their religious beliefs. She really is one of the stupidest people I've read on all the internets these last few years, and that's sayin' something.
The "real Jesus" was insane and probably would have recommended stabbing the nearest Roman.
teegee takes the prize.
