Jesus, this comment: " Obama just made a speech in New Orleans that illustrates why I'm supporting Hillary. Faced with the ultimate example of the effects of Republican ideology, he instead spoke of the failure of "government." Not only letting the Right off the hook, but reinforcing the idea that "government" is the problem." - some dipshit named tdraicer
Digby is far from dumb, and yet she talks in terms of "figuring out a way around this"...what the fuck? When the Republicans had the majority, Dennis Hastert would actually pull a bill from the floor that all the Republicans wanted, simply because TOO MANY DEMOCRATS were going to vote for the bill too, and that would make it too bipartisan. So they would go back and redo the bill with a posion pill that Dems could not swallow, and then pass it on a pary line vote. Reid and Pelosi, by contrast, act as if they are powerless to stop bills coming to the floor in the precise manner that Republicans wish them to.
Reid and Pelosi, stupid as they may be, are not THAT stupid. They know what a majority can do. They simply choose not to.
That said, on this particular issue, I don't much give a fuck what the stimulus is or isn't, since it's all pissing in the wind anyway. But still, it's goddam depressing. No damn hope.
The only reason they won't make the lame duck asshat veto this stuff is that they know they will be so successful at blaming the Democrats for it that they don't need to worry about upsetting their own constituents.
OK, I count four "they"s and a "their" in that sentence, and I don't have a fucking clue who she's referring to. The first "they" seems to be the Dems, the second and third are maybe the Republicans, so I'm guessing "they" #4 is the libertarians? Or the Green Party?
And her call for "figuring out a way around this" is absolutely hilarious. C'mon people, let's get those figuring caps on! I'm going to make a bold prediction that when all the "figuring" is done, the "way around this" will turn out to be "more and better Democrats."
