Man, Richard Cohen is like, fuck, I don't even know:
But had you heard about them? Did your crack campaign staff alert you? And what about Wright's honoring Farrakhan? Had you heard about that? Did you feel any obligation to denounce those remarks -- not Farrakhan's, as you had done, but those of Wright himself? Don't you consider yourself a public figure whom others look to for leadership? Do you think you failed them here?Unhitch those britches, prosecutor!
Like Dennis Perrin says, Black America is having a very different conversation than White America right now. And with reason. This morning I read Anne Applebaum, the Virgin Martyr of Found Causes, on China:
Though we don't usually think of it that way, China is in fact a vast, anachronistic, territorial empire, within which one dominant ethnic group, the Han Chinese, rules a host of reluctant "captive nations." To keep the peace, the Chinese use methods not so different from those once used by Austria-Hungary or czarist Russia: political manipulation, repression by secret police and military force. Now that has got to be one of the most un-self-conscious extrusions I've heard in a long time. "A vast, anachronistic, territorial empire." "One dominant ethnic group." "Political manipulation, repression by secret police, and military forces." If Anne Applebaum read her own goddamn paper, she might have discovered that 1 of every 9 black men is in jail, and that our own vast, anachronistic, territorial empire appears to our non-dominant ethnic groups to be quite up on its political manipulation and repression. These crackers look to Tibet and see a long-suffering, noble people, and cheer them on for their molotovs. Meanwhile the problem with black americans is, what, they're not listening to Cosby?

I'm a white cracker, I'm not even ethnic, but I was born in Hawaii. Hey, remind me the story of how Hawaii became a Territory/Protectorate or whatever, again?
IOZ: I commend you for having the fortitude to read either of these cretins.
How does Cohen conclude that Obama's being "less than forthright or responsible about Wright" means that he might not answer that "vaunted red phone" at 3A.M.? I can hear Somerby howling in the distance.
As for Sweet Annie...couldn't finish her piece.
Like, fuck, I don't even know anymore.
Mike
"Virgin Martyr" LOL Man you come up with some zingers.
Would the continental United States by itself constitute an empire? Me, I consider us right now a hegemony.
Hey, I rented Bulworth on your recommendation, so I dunno why you're skipping the canonical response to Cohen's latest jerk-off:
My guys are not stupid. They always put the big Jews on my schedule. You're mostly Jews, right? Three out of four of you?
[brandishes speech] I bet Murphy put something bad about Farrakhan in here for you!
I wonder how much more mileage Dickie's gonna try to get out of Farrakhan outrage. Does he know that the wily old Muslim's got a thing for that self-hating Jew Mendelssohn?

hey dude
As I wrote in that column, the manifest abilities and stunning political talents of Barack Obama still recommend him to the presidency. But he has been less than forthright or responsible about Wright. This does not disqualify him from the White House, but it does suggest that if the vaunted red phone rings at 3 a.m., there might be times when he will simply not answer.
yeah that's about as incoherent and absurd an ending to your column as can be imagined, which is saying something given the generally scattershot gist of it all. so because obama wasn't to your satisfaction entirely forthright with questions regarding his opinion/support/knowledge/whatever of wright's cherrypicked zeitgeist he may not answer a red cartoon phone at 0300 hours? shit dude set out the coon traps and clear the garbage off the white house lawn we can't let that nigger get in there.
since pretty much every politician ever is completely forthright regarding any guilt-by-association smear deadbrain bullshit, there's no question of their ability or willingness to pick up that red phone and start dropping bombs on brown people ASAP, right? clearly not being forthright or responsible is an issue that's exclusive to obama among the american politician population.
okay you know what, i feel like i'm coming on too strong, how about an olive branch?
go israel
we cool now?
I got no issue with Jeremiah. I'd like to see a few other people adapt the same attitude in the pulpit. Frankly, it's largely a matter of scale, class and wealth and the old "everybody needs somebody to look down on/whom they can feel better than at any time they please..." Blacks and Indians have it worse than the rest of us, but the power elite has defined us all as bozos. And, we're really dealing with it well, aren't we?
While I'm willing to take bets on the total elimination of Tibet as cultural-population-loaded entity in China with the Urghurs a close second (less bad press because who gives a fuck about Muslim-Manchus anyway? But, they have less problem with violence than the Tibetans. In fact, I think they've gotten to that part of the Koran that advocates it as a response to the infidel), in a way that's easier to recognize than our own homogenization of dissent, ethnicity and values into something radically other than anyone who had something to do with this place coming to be ever imagined. Sucks to be a Tibetan in Lhasa right now; but, it sucks to be an American in pick your favorite place...
