Okay. So. Watching Chucky Krauthammer try to rehabilitate guilt by association--literally!--is sort of the inverse of the old Marxian adage: farce devolving into tragedy. What it indicates is a total failure of McCain's research team to come up with anything real, which in itself is sort of remarkable: that in the whole of Obama's life, the best they could come up with is that he sat on some board one time with a 60s radical and attended a church wherein the minister was sometimes prone to making provocative statements. This is the best they could do? Not one firebrand speech from his youth? Consider this: John Kerry was more radical than Barack Obama.

Obama was once in a now defunct political party devoted to moving the Democrat party to the left from within! (which is even less impressive than it sounds once you click through the links and do a little research to get a fuller picture.)
but still.
i'll laugh my ass off if Barry gets elected and it turns out he really was groomed for power by radical socialists.
Dude, if Obama was actually a secret Muslim communist out to betray the White Man to the Islamofascist hordes, I'd vote for the man. As it is, the reason McCain's people can't find anything on him is that he's mind-numbingly conservative. What're they going to say: "Don't vote for this guy - he's as stultifyingly reactionary as we pretend to be"?
that's exactly what They want you to think.
Montag, the 'New Party' were far from socialists. They were at most social democrats -- what I would have called, in my more doctrinaire days, 'petit bourgeois liberals'. It is only in contrast with the rightist character of most US politics that they would ever be considered 'radical' or 'socialist'.
Obama's been groomed by Chicago and Illinois party machines, and by his Chicago School mentors/comrades. He is, in the US context, a technocratic centrist. Whatever liberalism tints his politics, it's a garnish on the plate and not meant to be eaten with the meal.
