Andrew Sullivan wants to know what it means that almost half of America voted out of hillbilly cultural affinity rather than sober assessment of a candidates intellectual ability, emotional maturity, managerial authority, and ability to govern. Isn't it obvious? It means that democracy is retarded. It should be replaced with the drawing of lots, the spinning of bottles. It's a feature of the system in which we live, in which any moron is enfranchised. Jesus hell fucknshit, it's been ever thus.

um, Dude, the Chinaman is not the issue here.
Yea that's a weird realization to come to. However, I think it's probably the most responsive/stable system of government that exists. The Walter Lipmann technocrats (or Plato philosopher kings) always get corrupted by power.
And give America some credit, they elected a black guy with all kinds of wild freethinking associations.
I think the secret is organizing among those who care -- then they sway the institutions like the media, that in turn, control the public opinion of the retards.
It's a tough one.
What tied the room together, Dude?
You forgot the divination of chicken entrails.
Uh, no it hasn't. Two hundred years ago my hillbilly ass wouldn't be allowed to vote. We have a lot more stupid people now. That's definitely different.
What do you mean "half"? Who the hell didn't vote for fucktarded reasons? You folks have a naively optimistic view of democracy.
TGGP: "almost half of America voted out of hillbilly cultural affinity". The other half voted out of race solidarity, identity politics, to insure the checks keep coming, and the desire for an imaginary hip black friend. Are you saying that's fucktarded?

Oh look, a Straussian... Sure, when it's our secret elite manipulating the public, things will be better!
Wait, didn't you just say something about how philosopher kings are corrupted by power?
I used to date a guy who would seriously argue that people without property shouldn't be allowed to vote (hey, it was good enough for the Founding Fathers), and that if you depended on money from the Government for your livelihood, you shouldn't be allowed to vote.
When I asked, "you mean Government and Military contractors and their employees?" he admitted it would be restricted to welfare and Social Security recipients. I later found out he was just repeating what he'd heard from Radio bonehead Neil Boortz.
Pls. to tell meester Sullivan that this sad reality is easily explained simply by recognizing that half the population has a below-average intelligence.
To paraphrase something J.S. Mill once wrote: not all conservatives are stupid people, but most stupid people are conservatives.
Americans voting their hillbilly cultural affinity wasn't a problem for Sullivan when the votes were being cast for George Bush. It's nice that some of these right-wing war pimps are capable of seeing the error of their ways and changing their minds, but it doesn't make their past behavior any less reprehensible.

I hate it when you wrongly say "half." Half of "America" didn't fucking vote at all. Sure it was up this year, but still 37% of eligible voters STAYED HOME - leaving a third to vote for Obie and a little less than a third to vote for the hillbillies.
And, contra Sullivan, I WANT stupid fucks to run the empire. I LOVE what GWB has done to the empire. Viva democracia!
I attended a talk George Lakoff gave about how humans make political decisions. Summary: What IOZ says.
If you're interested in Lakoff definitely check out Mixing Memory.
Yeah, as I recall, Andy was exulting when Bush first stole office. And GWB, or Goob as he's known to some, was every bit as ignorant and stupid and probably more vicious than Palin.
It means that democracy is retarded. It should be replaced with the drawing of lots...
That is democracy, or at least it worked for Ancient Athens. Random chance avoids the perverse incentives associated with most methods of choosing a leader.
"Nuts, Senate duty? Great, now I'm stuck in Washington for the next three months..."
Wasting time reading The Warmonger Andrew Sullivan....hah, that's a good one....
