Camera Obscura

Who saw it coming. The idea here is that if we allow the foreigners whose nations we invade and occupy to know that our shock troops will horribly abuse and mistreat them, then they will know that our shock troops will horribly abuse and mistreat them. Oh well, another day, and another hope changes. Poetic, no?

Well...I think you are being a little facetious here. (Noooo! Ioz) The point is more that these photos will be copied and sent around the world and used to promote rage and fulminate agaisnt us. Which we deserve, but as the Imperial Manager He needs to slow down the inevitable, no?

We must preserve the Empire so our children will have the opportunity to torture people of other countries after we're gone. Why can't you think of the children, IOZ? Whyyyyyyy?

The idea that the Iraqis and Afghanis only notice US torture when it appears in Newsweek or Time Magazine is obviously absurd.

Well, look at it from Obama's perspective. If he makes it harder to torture people, then it might be harder for him to torture people.

[Obama] did not take questions from reporters, but said disclosing the photos would have “a chilling effect” on future attempts to investigate detainee abuse.

I wouldn't take questions either, if I was trying to pass off a bullshit argument like that.

"We can't investigate past abuses, because it would make it harder for us to investigate future abuses. Which, of course, we can't investigate either, because that would make it harder to investigate other abuses which are even farther into the future.

Finally, the President has discovered recursion.

Dunc: I know...I know....

All's I'm saying is that fresh photos can be used. Heck...SHOULD be used to whip up violence against the occupying forces. As for the American people...we reelected George W. Bush in 2004. what more can you say?

By "Should" of course, I mean, strategy dictates they use said photos. I don't like any violence, even if we instigate it.

What Dunc said.

The point is obviously to prevent Americans from seeing what is done in their name. The victims are already aware.

This part is pretty good too:

One example cited in internal discussions was the series of riots that followed publication of cartoons by Danish newspapers that were viewed as hostile and insulting to Islam.

I imagine Obama and his advisors gathered around a conference table in the West Wing, brows furrowed as they try to understand the enigma wrapped in a riddle that is the Muslim Mind. "Well, there was that one time they got all mad over those Danish cartoons, so maybe there's something about pictures that sets them off?"
