Now I know that Iran isn't part of "the Arab World" any more than India, Indonesia, or for that matter the United States are part of the Arab World. And Mona Eltahawy knows that Iran isn't part of the Arab World any more than Moldova, Azerbijan, Georgia, Tibet, Laos, Nicaragua, or French Guyana are part of the Arab World. But most of the readers of the Washington Post don't know this, which makes one wonder what agenda is served when Eltahawy so assiduously elides the distinction in the pages of the WaPo opinion section.

No mention, either, that Arabs are a significant (and not very well treated) minority in Iran. Fuck it - they're all ragheads anyway.
BUT WERE PART OF THE AXIS OF EVIL!!!11
True story.
The point of the article, it seems, it to explain to the "Arabs" (not just in Iran) that:
FREEDOM = BLAWG!!1!!!
If they accept this little pearl of wisdom, their political system will resemble that of the U.S. in no time. All dissent, new ideas, and unorthodox opinions sublimated directly through the keyboard into harmless cathode rays, while the ruling class consolidates their hold over the apathetic, whiny citizens. Progress! Iran finally joins the family of nations. Let a thousand points of blog bloom forth.
I'm surprised IOZ didn't spot this as a clumsy piece of pro-Ayatollah propaganda.
