Just for the record, whatever the comment policy here at Who Is IOZ? is, and your guess, bubbas, is as good as mine, it is the opposite of this.

Well, I'm 'all in', if you ever feel like making this a safe space
the anonymi and the newbies are often triggering in their blanket statements about the regulars.
How good. I'll have to get my lawyer to help me draft comments to ensure I stay within the guidelines.
I dont know if you ever read SadlyNo, Ioz, but a magnificent post a few days ago speculated that the REAL reason Obama is escalating the war in Afghanistan and staying put in the Iraq quagmire is because he doesnt want to bring 250K troops home in an economy that cannot hire them. I dont know what to do with this information but someone has to know.
They're all "all in".
Apparently they never play poker. That does not mean what they think it means.
cunts.
Well, goddamn it, now the surprise is ruined. We were going to apotheosize you next week, IOZ. Now it's all fucked up. I'm going home.
Justin: I command you to find me a link to that comment. That is all.
If they hadn't banned me I might have been able to explain what I meant when I asked if Shakesville was a blog or a cult. Apparently this query violated the dictates of their so-called "safe space."
Their comment policy boils down to: "don't say anything that would hurt Melissa's feelings," which, upon extended review, I have concluded encompasses anything and everything that is even slightly critical.
I think their main problem is that they are trying to have a private support group in a public forum. As Crusader AXE at The Defeatists once pointed out, their approach is totalitarian in nature; in addition, they and unable to handle real life (these are likely related, no?).
I wish I could say this to the denizens of Shakesville: people say mean things, people disagree: get over it.
Big fucking deal. If I host an open-door party, that doesn't mean you get to come in and piss on my rug. The internet may be a public forum, but it's not a Public Forum, if you catch my drift. Site owners can enforce any damn rules they please, and the First Amendment does not apply.
Dunc, your violent language is turning this thread into a dangerous space. You're all in, aren't you?
Yeah, guys, so stop invoking your first amendment rights all the fucking time. It's all you fucking do around here. That poor woman!
Who the hell is Melissa?
Here's that SadlyNo post. Magnificent isn't the word I would have used.
Anony: I thought the comment policy here was the opposite of that? I shall strive to be more abusive in future.
Dunc: We don't need your concern trolling here in this safe space. I think you are in need of re-education.
Dunc, that's exactly my point: my question may have been irreverent, but it was not offensive, misogynist or in any way anti-feminist.
Certainly it was not the equivalent of a rug pissing.
I chose irreverence precisely because I feel that the so-called Shakesville "community" has elevated Melissa to a status where even the mildest criticism is greeted with incredible vitriol.
I've always felt very safe here.
If Melissa gets so sad about the commenters, she can make each one register, like on Kos. Otherwise she should, as has been said, get "over it."
"All in."
Thanks Mitch and Justin. That shit is indeed magnificent. Personally, I believe that Obama is only keeping troops in Afghanistan and Iraq because of the dictates of his masters, the Star Gods, but you know, whatever.
he doesnt want to bring 250K troops home in an economy that cannot hire them
not without that oil!
Speaking of which, when was the last time you had a job interview with "the economy."
Not to stay on-topic or anything, but why did nobody warn me that Jeff Bridges was the bad dude in Iron Man? It prevented me from suspending my disbelief at all, especially as my partner and I tried to do his lines for him. "Why is everything a fucking travesty with you, Stark?" or the most popular, "Mind if I do a J?"
Yeah, the thing that pushes it to magnificent is the unstated assumption that using war as a jobs program is a wise and benevolent decision. I can at least understand the logic of imperialism and seeking to control the worlds energy resources, but the idea that we ought to blow other countries up to keep our boys working is just insane.
This Restatement of Principles is less triggering and less inclusive, thanks. I don't feel wanted or excluded. Wait....
Oh! My coral pink little ears! This is definately NOT a safe space! Retreat to Shakeyville!
All that aside - thanks for the gratuitous Julianne Moore.
Can't decide what I like more, the bowling balls or the horns.
Thats right, fuck you Who is IOZ? and your shitty blog and shitty ideals. And fuck all the rest of you dumbass commenters.
~Kai,
Is following the rules.
Speaking of which, when was the last time you had a job interview with "the economy."
last night around 2 am.
I so want to disrespect, offend, and distress our blog-mistress. If only I know how...
Well, the message reinforcement at Who is IOZ? is a damn sight less humorless, that's for sure.
(But then, I assume you meant that this is the opposite of a safe place.)
IOZ and his commenters are vapid meatcunts who should get raped with shitting dick nipples by The Troops as long as we don't have to see photos of it because President Obama would only have someone raped with a shitting dick nipples sorrowfully and after great reflection.

is there a prize for most insane comment? why was i not told? can i enter the contest?
As the Anon. who posted the insane comment I'll just say that it's even better if you've googled "shitting dick nipples." (NSFW obviously.)
Here's another interesting comment policy:
http://scienceblogs.com/isisthescientist/2009/05/comrade_physioprofs_handy-dand.php
Uh, Thoreau, that's more what you'd call "guidelines" than actual comment policy.
We were going to apotheosize you next week, IOZ.
Why wait? I'O'Z'
Personally, I believe that Obama is only keeping troops in Afghanistan and Iraq because of the dictates of his masters, the Star Gods, but you know, whatever.
The Muslim Star Gods. Do try to keep up.
The Muslim Star Gods were the guys that forged Barry's birth certificate so that he could be elected by catering to the interests of the Reptilian electorate in order to prevent the release of the Christ-Consciousness, right?
http://stargods.org/SplashPage.html
That's quite the manifesto. Fortunately, my laziness and disinterest made common cause and persuaded me to abandon reading it about three sentences in.
As someone unfamiliar with the Shakesville community reading that and the comments associated with it for the first time--it seems to be a cult of personality with a victim fetish. Nikkos' comment was spot-on.
Haha, I just looked at the pictures Joseph.
Their comment policy boils down to: "don't say anything that would hurt Melissa's feelings," which, upon extended review, I have concluded encompasses anything and everything that is even slightly critical.
That's exactly right, nikko. The funny thing is that even with a dozen other blog contributers and dozens more commenters to jump to her aid Melissa McEwan still manages to proclaim her victimhood quite regularly in the comments.
And even though her studiously self pitying rants are inevitably responded to with numerous cries of sorrow and weepy heartfelt apology from all the regulars, she still has to take periodic "breaks" from the blog.
Histrionic personality disorder comes to mind
Hmm Ironic then that you have a rather radical, conservative feminist in your blogroll. I'll give you the rules over there are egotistical, but come on, Twisty?
Twisty is a remarkable persona, and her "policies" I can dig: arbitrary, self-serving, changeable, whimsical, and vicious.
Actual Shakesville comment:
'As for me... "all in" is the phrase that haunts me and part of why I've spent more than a year reading and can count my comments on one hand. It scares me. The concept of giving my all to anything makes me terrified of losing myself, like I've nearly done in some of my past relationships. I wonder what will be left for me to hold onto.
But that's no excuse to do nothing. I may not be able to be "all in" right this instant, but I can do more. I can comment on threads other than Pubs. I can cut down my blogroll, getting rid of the ones I don't get much from so I can use some of my limited online time to give back to the community here - my community. I can donate financially when I'm able to.
I can also strengthen my teaspoon arm. So often I read requests to sign an online petition, or call D.C., or take action in some way that won't cost me anything but a tiny bit of time. And I think "eh, I'll do it later" - but later never comes. Part of giving back to this community means doing what I can to make it possible for communities like this to exist.
I can do more. And if I find that I can't do more... then I'm already all in.'
Yes, but she's rather judgemental towards those who enjoy things like :Gasp!: S&M or say stripping. See here: http://fetchmemyaxe.blogspot.com/
2006/11/fuck-it.html
No seriously, she wants feminist to follow the feminist philosophy according to her.
No seriously, she wants feminist to follow the feminist philosophy according to her.
Yeah, fuck, it's almost as if she's the proprietor of a blog or something. You do understand that "Twisty" is not a real person, right?
No, I know it's her blog persona and that's what people call her. But you really don't think that post might have a point? You don't think she's trying to parent the feminist movement just a little bit? Hell, you're an anarchist! You're supposed to be against all authority.
Jenny, I'm pretty sure that as an anarchist IOZ would recoil from any and all "You're supposed to..." statements.
I tried to get through the whole thing. I really did. But when I encountered the phrase, "the broad community," a couple of paragraphs in, it really triggered me. Maybe it's like african americans using the 'N' word with each other, but I couldn't get past my initial triggering. This precluded me from achieving the full flower of "All In-ness," or, if you will, "All In-anity." As a paltry consolation, I must continue to derive meager comfort from the fact that I'm still jellin'. You jellin'?
a greatest hit if you will

"Not to stay on-topic or anything, but why did nobody warn me that Jeff Bridges was the bad dude in Iron Man? It prevented me from suspending my disbelief at all, especially as my partner and I tried to do his lines for him. "Why is everything a fucking travesty with you, Stark?" or the most popular, "Mind if I do a J?""
Personally I tended to end all of Bridges' big scene-chewing moments with "...you human paraquat!" EX: "Tony Stark! built this in a cave! With a box of scraps! You human paraquat!"
Melissa is kind of embarassing when she's having one of her "incredibly thin skinned" pity parties, but the blog's not bad overall. There is nothing as awesome as Twisty, however, and if she were to parent the feminist movement, men wouldn't stand a chance.
She probably kidnapped herself.
Some of the things that have so traumatized Melissa, as according to "paulthespud":
Somebody saying "Also, fuck Bill Donohue with something spiky"
The words "a bowling ball to the face" (No further context is provided).
Saying people might not be laughing at that Sasha Baron Cohen/Eminem thing just because they're (The people laughing) awful homophobes.
Somebody saying she was too much of an Obama-worshipper. (This makes her unbelievably mad and is like "pissing on [her] rug").
And, the best of all, somebody calling farm country the "E-I-E-I-O belt" (Totally fucking serious).
That's the combined assualt that makes Ms. McEwan wonder why she even bothers to get out of bed in the morning.
Why the hell does Shakesville HAVE a comments section if the words "E-I-E-I-O belt" are enough to make Ms. McEwan's blood boil so?
I'm totally serious here, what's the point of the comments section there?
Oh, and what's wrong with paulthespud that he can link to McEwan getting pissed off at a very stupid yet mildly derogatory term for farm country and not have her come off as kind of an oversensitive ninny?
WHAT? This isn't a feminist blog where the 'community' reigns supreme?
Fuck you, Ioz. I'm leaving.
Icky. Icky. Icky.
Paul the Spud says: "A large point of this post is reminding everyone to do their part in thinking about how to make Shakesville a safe space. We can't, and won't, tell everyone what to do.
Give it some thought."
My primary objection to Malkinville, where the outrage meter is always set at 10, is the total lack of humor. Especially in the "humor" pieces.
But Paul the Spud has now written the funniest thing I've read in ages.....not gonna tell anyone what to do...you crack me up spud!
I stand corrected; Malkinville is the funniest site on the intertubes.
the phrase "safe space" should probably be something like "non-argumentation zones" rather than implies that there's something unsafe about people saying mean things about you on the internet.
the idea itself isn't terrible - there's no reason to have to continually reiterate basic assumptions if you don't want to - but the language employed is kinda creepy.
Twisty is a remarkable persona, and her "policies" I can dig: arbitrary, self-serving, changeable, whimsical, and vicious.
Okay, I'm "all in."
How you gonna keep 'em down on the farm after they've seen Karl Hungus?
for a buncha antipatriarchs, they sure love their power structures.
dhex, also, there are plenty of safe places in the world... like... in your bed, under the covers, with the blinds drawn, surrounded by several dozen cats.
strike that last bit.
thank you for opening my eyes to twisty! what a glorious sight to behold. i had no idea that giving or not giving a hug was oppression! i god damn love that paranoia type writing! i'll take my leave now, i have much to learn
Someone named Portly Dyke just closed the thread at Malkinville. I'm sure they don't get the hilarity of having to close down a comment thread on a post introducing the new commenting policy.
FAIL.
my good friend the culture ghost summed up the sexual politics of malkinville when he emailed me the following -
In fact no one is ever getting pussy any more, ever, if we have our way. So think about that, Mr. Nice Guy. -
i think dicks are still fair game though.
We are speaking for ourselves, as contributors and moderators, because we believe that we must do so in order to serve our own ethics and intentions about the kind of community we want to create and participate in. We also speak in solidarity with IOZ, both because we care for him personally, and in solidarity with the ideal of progressive leadership and vision IOZ has embodied, because we believe that real-life models of this ideal are vitally important to the progressive movement.
We perceive that, over and over again, the choices of some community members in comment threads have created an environment in which IOZ, the founder and creator of safe space at Who is IOZ?, clearly states that he feels unsafe, unheard, and unacknowledged. In recent weeks, this pattern flared up again, and IOZ chose to take a break from the blog.
Haha. Come back to us IOZ, we love you
which farm will i be sent to?
Man, you really need to read the most recent couple of posts at the site.
All in!
From here on out I promise to maintain a Safe Space for IOZ.
And don't you dare trigger me.
Safe space? Are they all 8 years old? What a strange place: white-hot, wingnut-style outrage/hysteria marinating in the gooeyest sort of pwoggie touchy-feely. I don't think I'm going back there. It's the bearded Spock version of IBTP.
via one of Twisty's threads I have now learned my preference for non-sweet, earthy, "challenging" French wine is 100% because I am a social climbing wannabe patriarchal dominator! Maybe 50%, but 100%? Jesalu.
I have cats, but I don't blog about them much.
You know the saying - dogs have masters, cats have staff.
I make a point of providing a safe space for my cats, except when I take them to the vet for surgery to destroy their reproductive capacity.
Brian M: keep reading. don't take it personally. Twisty (now Jill) will win you over. her style is similar to IOZ, she seems to enjoy clobbering you over the head with it, but there is truth in everything she writes. great stuff.
Everyone who left a comment in this thread should donate at least $10 to IOZ. There is no greater way to express our love and respect for our gracious host for his selfless determination in building this safe space for us nihilists. I expect you all to do your part and be “all in” when it comes to donating a few bucks for this good cause.
Agi: what's mine is mine. come and get it, fucking nihilist. show me what you got, dipshit with a nine-toed woman.
not to say we told you so Ioz, but didn't we tell you that posts about malkvinville would be popular?
I am not worthy to comment chez IOZ. Doesn't mean I'm going to stop, though.
She thinks the rug pissers did this?
i think what agi is saying is that if we all chip in give to IOZ he'll have plenty of money for any number of rugs that don't have sentimental value.
This comment thread is continually "triggering" me.
