Stalinism in Pursuit of Equality

If you need convincing evidence of the Feckless Authoritarianism™ (a subset of Squishy Totalitarianism) that animates American liberalism, look no further than Eugene Robinson, here proposing that the antidote to discriminatory "profiling" is . . . what? A further, massive increase in the totalizing surveillance powers of the state. I might turn a phrase: the solution to discrimination is to behave indiscriminately. Wait, what? That doesn't make any . . . Is that . . . ? Huh?

At this rate, the only guarantee of total human security is extinction.

There's a reason all of us have to take our shoes off at the airport.

lulz. I wander when these people are going to realize that they're not really saying anything, and that what they're really after is an expression. maybe then they'd get closer to the truth of the matter, and maybe pause for a brief moment of introspection. but I mean, BLAWG!

anyone know how to get in touch with the cult of Cthulhu for my area?

Good plan, Gene! Just one question. If it's going take me an entire day in line to go through an airport, why would anyone(excluding those with a fetish for being fisted by uniformed meatheads) fly anywhere that they could drive to in less than that?

Maybe we should just send send federal agent to shoot people in the head as soon as they click confirm on their Orbitz purchase. Bound to kill at least a couple of terrorists that way.

I don't need your security, I need my fucking johnson!

Heeeeey! Wait a minute! Have you guys ever noticed that his name is euGENE Robinson? As in, GENES, GENOME, EUGENICS? Creeeeeepyyyyy.

Also, that joke about evolution toward extinction is funny, as long as we remember that no form of life evolves toward any particular status at all. I recently discovered that some people still talk about social and political evolution on a teleological trajectory. Like progress or something! That shit is more cumulative, like Pee Wee Herman's giant rubber band ball of human institutions.

Wait, so you folks want ... what, now? Yes, profiling, or no?

Evolution is usually preceded by extinction. That's kind of how it works.

Lay off the guy. I read it as a straightforward argument for Draconian (i.e. thorough and uniform) application of al rules to all. An older black man might have good reasons to fear giving the fatherland permission to focus their attention of men with dark skin and facial hair. The insurance business would see this as a risk-pool membership fight.

This affects all of us, man.

Am I the only one who gives a shit about the rules?

Maybe when they catch a REAL terrorist we can implement draconian security policies? How's that? Not some brainwashed MK stooges or National Enquirer readers. K?Thxbai.

Why can't they just beat and rape us right before we leave our homes? That way, everybody's safe.

Yes. Either keep security to a common sense minimum and everyone agrees to run an infinitesimal risk of being murdered by an Islamic terrorist when they fly, or profile. A common sense minimum might include some sort of hiring standard regarding airport security personnel. One of the worst feelings in the world is standing in a long line at Wal-Mart, frozen in time while an obese gum-chewing cashier waits hostilely for a price check on a package of Dots candy. Imagine if on top of that you're holding your shoes like an asshole, and you have O'Hare

Isn't "in Pursuit of Equality" redundant?

Discrimination is despicable conduct. Who really cares what reasons the Discriminating consumer might offer for preferring the California pinot noir and bypassing the Franzia box of white zin altogether? The point is that one category of persons or things should NOT be distinguished from another for most practical purposes, except perhaps in the initial naming of said categories, and maybe writing minority set-aside subsidies and helping Muslims into their victim's weeds.

Oh, Inkberrow. You should have ghostwritten for William Safire.
