Gaze at the Military

Haha. Remember when smarty-pants liberals called ol' Gee-Dub "the boy emperor." And Obama was a font of measured wisdom or some bullshit. Dude, compared to Obama, George is starting to look like Marcus fucking Aurelius. I mean, this shit even embarrasses me. Barry O is starting to look like Millard Fillmore.

I sort of feel sorry for him. I mean, usually you have to wait until your second term for your underlings to start jockeying for the honor of making you look ridiculous in a Woodward "book".

As for actual gays in the actual military, that is one club from which I'm happy to be excluded. It is a more interesting testament to the current arrangement of forces in the empire. Can a barracks emperor be very far away?

See Pat Lang post this morning: “Obama battles with advisers over Afghan exit plan” http://tinyurl.com/24g359n

After quoting a WaPo piece about the military’s refusal to respond to President Obama’s request last year for a viable Afghanistan exit plan, the retired colonel sums it up thus:
"I knew this was going on at the time. The bottom line here is that President Obama does not really have the generals under control. This is a potentially disastrous portent for America's future. The president makes policy. The generals carry it out. That is the American tradition. There have been generals who thought they knew better, and perhaps they did, but that is irrelevant in a country that has valued federal political democracy above all else. The constitution makes the civilian president commander in chief of the armed forces. He has the command authority at the top, not the generals. If he wishes to fire David Petraeus tomorrow, Petraeus will be gone the day after.

"Petraeus is quoted as saying to his staff, "the White House is ------- with the wrong guy." If true, that is right on the edge of insubordination. The McChrystal episode evidently did not impress him.

"Obama gave the generals too much in the outcome of the great "policy review." They interpreted that as an indication of weakness."

I don't know if we can blame The Obama for the inability of the Senate to pass a bill. It's not like he controls them directly, the way he controls the military or the Justice Department or the flying killer robots or the global gulag.

I guess we could argue that he could lean on them more, or something, but I feel like there's less culpability here than in his relentless and vicious campaign to arbitrarily murder brown people on the other side of the world.

I have to say, it pisses me off when Amy Goodman and her ilk wring their hands and wail and moan over the exclusion of gays from the military. The more people prevented from becoming hired killers the better, "equal rights" be damned.

I think "inability" is a very interesting word to use in this context.

Re. withdrawal from certain situations in which certain elected officials find themselves: one doesn't need a plan to pull-out. One merely needs the will-power.

"The issue isn't about individuals or liking gay people," said Elaine Donnelly, president of the Center for Military Readiness, a group opposed to repeal. "The issue is about what's best for the armed forces."

This country is such a sociopathic joke.

Gridlock said...

Yeah, but have you ever tried pulling out when you've had a long, exhausting, dirty time getting there? It requires significant willpower.

Anonymous said...

What's good for the armed forces is good for the nation.

If I've told you once, I've told you a thousand times ... stop using the phrase "barracks emperor" until you've posted on the very interesting topic of why Barack is actually our very first "Barracks" Emperor.

There are no coincidences ...

Uncle Claudius, I wasn't the Messiah after all, would you believe that? Could have knocked me over with a feather then they told me that.

So much easier to be amusing when your premise is bullshit to start with. I don't know one single smarty-pants liberal who ever called candidate Obama a font of measured wisdom or anything. And blithely adding, 'or some bullshit' doesn't count for shit.

IOZ said...

LULZ, oh yeah, right, Ryerson, it was only a fucking interweb meme and campaign theme.

Jesus Christballs on a pogostick, Ryerson you are out of your element. you're not even worth the trouble of me scrolling back through my facebook feed with all the "so glad to have a smart President" posts over the past 18 mos. or so.

get bent.

MichaelRyerson said...

Has this place devolved to the point you are actually trying to say Obama's not intelligent? It becomes ever more like talking to the funny papers around here. You need to get a hat, you've been out in the sun too long.

Anonymous said...

Monsieur,

Maybe. The military wasn't held in high regard in the Soviet State. Quite the contrary. It was a state where the managerial class called the shots. Stalin's best army generals, Meretskov and Rokkossovsky had scars from torture, and Stalin's Grand Aga, Zhukov always held a small suitcase by the bedside for the event of an arrest.

Also, of course I was talking about US+UK compact.

Capt'n Obvious

P.S. And of course, it may work both ways for BHO. The said pamphlet being the equivallent of scribbling naughty words on school walls after getting kicked out of class.

he might actually not be as smart as W Boosh. fwiw

you know, Mr. Fundamental, when you talk like that, I just feel tired all over. it's bullshit, you know it, I know it and you know I know it so why do you insist on posting utter crap? get a fucking life.

During an interview with Woodward in July, the president said, "We can absorb a terrorist attack. We'll do everything we can to prevent it, but even a 9/11, even the biggest attack ever . . . we absorbed it and we are stronger."

Yeah, but how much measured wisdom can it absorb? Fuckin' leaky fonts...

Well, there's his election to the editorship of the Harvard Law Review, and then to the U.S. presidency. Probative of serious brainpower, even if not dispositive.

kinda like authoring this blog. a high water mark, I suppose.

Black folks I know get real testy when you tell them how articulate or smart they are. They rightly feel condescended to and patronized.

Liberals been patronizing obama for a while now. They loved that toastmastery gravitas when he spoke. They loved how un Sharptony and how un-Rangelly he was, and inferred that he was some kind of genius, having transcended his race so completely. Same with Colin Powell and in the end it's mostly about white vanity.

Turns there's zero evidence that the guy is exceptional and is the political equivalent of a news reader. I don't think he knows or thinks much about anything. He's president Zelig.

P.S.
Why not approaching the intensity of Soviet 'appreciation' for army bosses, the treatment of uber-warlord Marshall, at the hands of DC politicos, is a sign who is in command.

Patraeus runs his pie-hole? So did McChrystal, Marshall, and if you believe some memoirs, Tukhachevsky.
