Because I wanted to get an unbiased opinion from an objective and disinterested party on the importance of widgets to the future of America, I called up Joe Acme of the Acme Widget Company, America's largest manufacturer of Widgets to ask him for his opinion.

Geez, IOZ. Can you please link us to the printer-friendly version of these columns in the future? Those eyes... those hands...
Widgets, sprockets, Friedman will never hear his boss say:
http://www.maximumdonline.com/tvwavs/fired.wav
My takeaway from this is Friedman enjoys watching bad baseball and a sudden craving for Sesame Chicken.
He is such a douche. I guess if we had a $20/gallon tax on gasoline, we'd have flying electric cars by the end of the week. None of that money would get funneled into nefarious foreign policy adventures (that he was for until he was against them).
I don't exactly have my pulse on the upper-middle class cultured liberal pseudo-elite in this country, so could someone let me know if anyone really takes him seriously, or is he like the Larry King of the NY Times?
Friedman seems to think that "moon shots" are a good idea. Our thriving space industry is evidence for the ability of the democratic state to succeed at them. Not to mention our current "moon shot", reforming Afghanistan.
Freidman, i heard the moon needs week newspaper columnists.
As with most junk this dunce types, it's a jumbled mess. What the hell is a "moon shot" and
what the hell does a "moon shot" have to do with electric cars? Citing his attendance at a Triple A baseball game, does Friedman mean a "(Wally) Moon Shot" which is sports venacular for a cheap home run or a "bloop" homer that travels under 300-feet over the shallowest part of some ban box ballfield.
If he means this, wouldn't a "tape measure shot" be more desirable?
Man, I got a headache.

Friedman writes whatever it takes to keep his huge ugliness of a "mansion" on Bradley Boulevard in constant "upgrade" status.
And yes, DC metro area upper-middles who identify as "Democrats" see him as a wise man. Why? WaPo! It's the facts, ma'am.
Of course they also see Krugman as a genius and Obama as a savior, but what else is new?
Maybe he meant "money shot." How can you read that kind of shit without developing chancre sores in your prefrontal lobes?
He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought --
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood awhile in thought.
And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
And burbled as it came!
Show us your portfolio, Friedman!
Shai Agassi has appeared in three friedman columns in 2 years. Does this guy even exist?
I did like his anecdote about how he discover the existence of the MIC (military-industrial complex): "While waiting for a hot dog, I overheard the conversation behind me..."
@peter ward. Its uncanny isnt it? The thread our doom hung upon?
The best part is that Friedman's nonsense fails on its own terms: if China were developing horse and buggies, sure. But electric car batteries require lithium, and the world's supply of lithium is largely under... you got it: AFGHANISTAN. So win again.
Take that, fan of minor league baseball. (Isn't being a billionaire enough for Tom? Must he subject the rest of us to his counter-factual musings?)
On weekends after a few hours of listening to wait wait don't tell me and american life IOZ settles into his chair, puts on his favorite andre boccelli cd and pours over the nytimes and wapo editorial pages after which he picks up the latest by jonathan franzen or the newest glen beck thriller.
I wish Friedman would go away just so blawgers didn't have to pour over his every editorial and get their panties in a bunch.
"I hate Led Zeppelin so I listen to them as much as I can and write about how badly they suck!"
Anon at 11:38 -
I assume the "pour over" (as in urinate or vomit on)is intentional.
I wish Anony @11:38 would go away so that commenters would stop complaining about blogs fulfilling their raison d'etre.
Everything sucks!
I'm so sick of commenters hating on other commenters. Why are you all such fucking assholes?
Shut the fuck up, Nony.
@anony @11:38
Only a complete twat could hate Led Zeppelin, then write about it.

Its fun to laugh at brooks and freidman. they are the laurel and hardy of wapo. AH me. GN./
10:21,
there's a new party being born. the People Who Hate People Party.
"People who hate people, come together!"

My feeling aren't hurt by Obama finger wagging about the base being ungrateful. I just think it's a rather silly, unproductive way to deal with a demoralized base and I doubt that it will fly as a strategy for laying blame after the election. I am from the Stephen Colbert "Keep Fear Alive" school which says that this crop of looney tunes Republicans are the most radical throwbacks we've ever seen and that it's important to keep them away from the reins of power. That's as good a reason for voting as I can imagine, so I'm not sure what more it takes. I'm sorry that we can't all be ecstatically singing along to a Will.I.Am video this time, but these just aren't inspirational good times. Right now it's about stopping something very ugly and bad rather than feeling all gooey and good. And that's an important part of politics too. It isn't all Oprah and hugging strangers in crowds.
So, for the record: please vote. No matter how disappointed you are or how rotten you feel about your present circumstances, empowering these crazies is a huge, huge mistake. The Democrats, sadly, will not learn the right lessons if a bunch of neanderthals take over and history shows that in times of great stress and transition, very bad things can happen when you let these people take the reins.
Shai Agassi is an Israeli who was supposed to become CEO of the German software firm SAP. The SAP board said that in fact, he would, but he had to make a 15-yr commitment to the firm, and share power for a few years before that.
He left to start some kind of save-the-world energy company.
As somewhat of an SAP "bouffe", I watched his meteoric rise within SAP with interest, tied up as it was with dragging SAP out of an older client-server model into a web-based model with an emphasis on Java (or Java-like) code.
Yeah, I'm gonna vote. I'm gonna vote Green. Advantages to living in California - legalized weed!
LaD,
We don't need no water
Let the motherfucker burn

@LA Diggs:
I dont buy the "dangerous loony toon"teabagger meme. So what if they are? if they get to the senate they will be told what they can and cant do by Mich Bugconnel and the lobbyist/handlers they assign to them. The electoral system is failing us. Vote your conscience but please, frightened people, im scared too, but dont hector me if I dont vote for Pepsi because its no Better than voting
Coke. All i have is a vote. I have no other say in the matter, if they assume I vote them in even if they enact Mitt Romenys Health care plan. Loyd Blaknfein nd Chris Dudds Fin Reg, and Dick Cheneys foreign policy, then appoint Elizabeth Warren to a bullshite postiton and THEN verbally abuse me for not sending in campaign donations, tell me to grow up, then my vote is TRULY wasted and I have let down myself and m,t country. We dont need to try to play electoral politics with the DCCC and Bill Clinton and Third Fucking Way. We need an independent, non partisan left Movement.
"Right now it's about stopping something very ugly and bad rather than feeling all gooey and good."
Funny how the Democrats are the Republicans.
Fuck 'em if they can't take a joke
That "La Digs" blurt is classic leftist agitprop. Evil Poland! Always about to attack little Germany! Why, Poland is more scary and dangerous now than it has ever been! Keep Fear Alive!!
It doesn't matter how crazy the tea party is (and for the record, they are perfectly sane, safe as houses).
Even if both House and Senate go Rethuglican, Obama will veto anything significant they try to do. Even if the Rethuglicans win every race, which they won't, they still won't have the ability to override a veto.
And even if Obama does for some strange reason sign off on some Rethuglican legislation, it may be defeated by the courts, which you may have noticed are not exactly rightwing.
And even if some minor new law is passed that Obama feels forced to sign and the courts find acceptable... then the civil service can simple refuse to enforce it. Like immigration.
And meanwhile, each new year passes and kids are being indoctrinated by ed-school progressives and then encouraged to go on to centers of higher progressive indoctrination. And each year another million Mexicans get the vote.
Poland is not invading Germany this year. Calm down, good Germans. There is no need for fear: you've won; the state is firmly in your control. You're safe.
uhh... what Gridlock said.
@Lenoard. lets examine some of your assumptions.
"Even if both House and Senate go Rethuglican, Obama will veto anything significant they try to do."
Obama has done nothing, as president, to suggest he is hostile to "rethuglican" neo liberal economic polices. He has endorsed Bush and Cheney imperialist foreign policy and gone even further than they went to support the burgeoning American police state. I cant imagine a republican bill he would veto, unless it were designed specifically to weaken him personally. Becuase the dem and repubs are only fighting over who controls the patronage. their are no serious idealogical differences.
"And meanwhile, each new year passes and kids are being indoctrinated by ed-school progressives and then encouraged to go on to centers of higher progressive indoctrination. And each year another million Mexicans get the vote."
This is just regurgitated, paranoid, halucinatory rhetoric and unprovable, wholly subjective personal opinion.
Leonard your a pice o' work babe
