We're Only in It for the Money

The Donk shitshow is getting pretty intense. By which I mean HIGH-larious. So . . . what, Digs? The articulate, professional, executive, upper-middle-class former advocate and supporter of Barack Obama is suffering from, um, some kind of false consciousness? So, she's rationally concluded that no one, least of all "Our President," gives two shits and wet burp about any poor schmuck anyway, and this is the fault of, um, the "right-wing noise machine"? Check this shit out:

The right's non-stop attacks eventually just wear people down, sap them of their enthusiasm, make them question their own judgment, especially in the face of a negative and less than hopeful future. You have to be pretty committed to want to wallow in this toxic mud every day and most people have better things to do with their time.

I'm not saying that if the GOP wasn't relentlessly attacking Obama that this woman would feel good about him. He hasn't been very successful at addressing her concerns and there are plenty of liberals who are critical of him as well. But even if he were able to allay her concerns about the economy and the future of the country, the exhaustion that comes from battling back these lunatics is what really takes its toll.
Willfully misconstrue much? The lady is exhausted because she is trying to feed her family and send her kids to an Obligatory 4-Year Credentialling Facility and save some money so that she and her old man don't have to spend their waning years in fixed-income penury. She isn't "battling back" any goddamn lunatics; she's trying to make ends meet, you psychopathic monster!

digby: "you see, this is why rush limbaugh sucks."

Sorry to suck some wind out of yor spinning backfist, but this lady ain't exactly struggling. Two kids in private school?? Thats more than median household income right there. this ain't who's fucking who, its a delusional circle jerk.

Wow, even for Digby this is extremely good apologetics. She's a master at misdirection.

While not writing critical dissertations on the collected works of Jonathan Franzen, IOZ spends his time hat tipping diby, Matt Ylglesias, and listening to Fresh Air. He's also been know to to change the commonly serviced parts on his car, the ball joints and tie rods, every 5,000 miles.

Enter a different reality tunnel for fucks sake. Your blog is like the dudes who spend their days cataloging what Joe Morgan says during sunday night baseball.

But we do love anonymooses who hate the menu at this restaurant they dine at three times a week.

Beeteedubbayou: not all private schools cost 25k a year. I mean, I take your point, mon grand, and I did call the lady upper middle class. Being a nonprofiteer by trade, I can tell you that the CFO at a veteran's service organization probably pulls around 65 pre-tax. And while that ain't nothin to sneeze at, besides which, her hubby presumably works too, I think she still falls comfortably below the demographic divide of anyone who's anyone giving a fuck.

hrmmm. the woman does say "Quite frankly, I’m exhausted. Exhausted of defending you, defending your administration, defending the man for change I voted for, and deeply disappointed with where we are right now."

so she might very well be exhausted from defending O`Bummer, and I'll give Monsieur the benefit of the doubt here, and add that I bet she's also exhausted from the life stresses that keep piling up, some of which are beyond her control, or anyone's control really, though she, um, expects O`Bummer to help her with those. but I hardly think she is referring to attacks from the Right Wing Bogeyman, which is what Digby keeps dragging back to the corpse, like some dumb puppy. what was I saying? oh yeah - BLAWG!

Diggy probably should get out of her gated community more often, but she knows the Democrats base when she panders to it. The decline of Velma's middle-class life style must be explained in such a way that she'll keep fucking herself over by supporting the God-Emperor - or at least keep donating to Bibbitybobbityboo!

In Clinton's case it was defending him from the non-stop personal attacks that was so wearying. It took a brave soul with a taste for political combat to keep fighting in the face of that onslaught.

Boo hoo! Democracy turns out to be all political; who could have predicted that? I mean, savage personal attacks have never happened before, right? I mean, attacks against Democrats (attacking Rethuglicans is deserved). Not in America? Or at least, not in my Digby's memory, which I am sure goes back at least to the 80s! Fortunately, we have the great soul Digby to keep fighting, even against the rabid and insane wingnuts shrieking and howling, aka the average voter.

I think it may be the people like me who are crazy.

A ray of sense in the clouds of hatred, fear and loathing.

I imagine it must be exhausting indeed to try 24/7 to convince the lumpen that a pan-fried turd is three strips of bacon.

Wait, is someone saying that Digby's a hack?

It's always the Evil Rethuglicans' fault.

I LOVED those guys. I can't think of a better use for a blog.

Townhall lady said herself she's exhausted from defending Obama. Who else would she be defending him from besides the right wing? I don't doubt her sincerity on that point. Why should you? At the very least, why should you call digby a sociopath over what amounts to a point of emphasis?

Anonymous said...

Stop making sense and demonstrating reading comprehension, Anon 4:43. We don't like that shit around here.

Anonymous said...

Hear, hear, 6:12. I might add, on a different day IOZ would have called townhall lady a psychotic Obama-supporting cruise missile liberal.

Lotta ins, lotta outs.

Who else would she be defending him from besides the right wing?

Random friends who say to her, "Why the fuck did you vote for this asshole when he hasn't done anything for you"?

I'm not much of a hockey, uh, player, but I mean, I'm constantly going on the defensive from uh, right AND left wingers all the time. wait, if she's a partisan, why is she exhausted? I thought they'd be into defending their leader. why won't people stop bothering her? because she's an idiot. it's all part of your sick Cynthia thing.

such silliness, and without nitrous oxide. so weird.

ESPECIALLY with an unhopeful future. Magic spells will kill a herd of sheep, if applied with arsenic.

Too bad there was nothing Obama could do to make the future brighter. Oh well, time to choose another Wall Street tool to replace Larry Summers.

Who else but W. B. Mason?

This is the best thread ever. It's just too bad that we sort of have Digby to thank for it. I hate when that happens.

whenever i read digby i hear the voice of some chick in combat boots with hairy legs and a megaphone ranting about diversity requirements or more funding for the womyn's center or those nasty frat boys who turned their speakers out the window and blasted nirvana's "rape me" during take back the night... man, i really miss the '90s.

anyway, she's not much of a target. you should find a new whipping-boy (or choose the apporpriate gender-neutral term). how about matt steinglass, who here heralds our new golden age of diplomacy: http://www.economist.com/blogs/democracyinamerica/2010/09/america_asia#comment-669301

JR, I hate to break it to you, but all those women who tell you they're lesbians when you hit on them? They're not. I know, I know, you seem like a real charmer, but still.

Im not sure that from reading that passage "battlling back" has the meaning that youve assigned to it.

That was quite an incoherent piece of Democratic party hackery, even by Digby's standards, and is a new low for her. According to Digby, all failures of liberalism and of the Democratic party can be traced back to the right-wing boogeymen. Fucking pathetic is what it is.

Good on IOZ for pointing it out.
