Sois sage et travaille bien

Astonishingly enough, Ross Douthat appears suddenly sensible and intelligent compared to other commentators. I can't exactly endorse the conclusions of his last couple of paragraphs, but since I so often pick on the guy, I want to give credit where due.

Douthat doesn't mention that James Earl Ray was a campaign volunteer for Wallace shortly before killing MLK Jr. Not causifying correlations here, just saying.

If the media didn't turn every one of Palin's queefs into front page news, maybe she'd still have a "shot" at 2012.

Tim2,

Got some Palin fans in my fam and they don't seem too put off by queef-into-front-page-news alchemy. A Palin presidency would not surprise me, but I been wrong before - which is why I no longer bet on this shit (least not this far in advance).

Congresswoman Giffords habitually looks for the good in everyone, I've been told, and now here IOZ is doing the same.

Hah, that's actually a pretty good indictment of modern punditry, that you're reduced to praising a man for simply stating "madmen are mad."

Nutella, it's not that he was mad. It's actually the NRA's fault, along with the gun manufacturer, at least according to Gail Collins' delightful little column.

I did not read to the end of this article. I am reading "Family of Secrets" and it does call into question the idea that Kennedy was shot by Oswald. For one thing, Oswald say "I am a patsy" just before he was killed - and most nutcases who kill or try to kill elected officials will brag about the killing, not deny it.

Which only calls into question his being a nutcase, not that he did it.

United in horror? Only when it's an American, on American soil. When we murdered certain foreign heads of states, and/or staff, or blew up TV stations and drug stores, I remember seeing some Americans dancing in the streets. Let's be clear. Either you value life, or you don't.

Hint: you don't

This is a great post and makes me think of where I can fit in. I do a little bit of everything mentioned here and I guess I have to find my competitive advantage.
