Someone Must Have Been Telling Lies about Private Manning

On Wednesday, the Army announced 22 additional charges against Private Manning, including “aiding the enemy.”

The charge sheet did not explain who “the enemy” was, leading some to speculate that it was a reference to WikiLeaks. On Thursday, however, the military said that it instead referred to any hostile forces that could benefit from learning about classified military tactics and procedures.

A thing to remember about tyranny is that it is always absurd; as it becomes more cruel, it becomes more ridiculous. Well, as a commenter here recently reminded us, the precogs are never wrong, but sometimes they disagree.

makes perfect sense when we recall, way back in chapter 2 that by definition "the enemy" is whomever the fuck the government says.

we know that PFC Manning has aided the enemy because the government has charged him with doing so.

is anyone else firmly in doubt of the government's assertion that this kid was behind such a massive security breach all by himself?

random gay scapegoat? make up a story about lady gaga?

No. Just substitute "disgruntled IT nerd" and "corporate compensation database" for "private" and "diplomatic cables", and let the scales fall from your eyes. The shadowy powers just aren't that capable.

Poor fuck.

Well, I have hand it to Mr. Manning. He's pretty much defining the phrase "take one for the team." Too bad it does fuck all for him.

Note of course that the "aiding the enemy" refering to "any hostile forces that could benefit..." makes any "national security" leak from now forward "aiding the enemy" as the state always has real and perceived enemies, how ever inefficacious. We need only wait for this to be extended beyond military leakers, though it probably already has...
Not that there haven't always been less formal ways of dealing with those who "aid the enemy" but the cards are being laid out on the table for all to see now...
