Affaire DSK

So it strikes me as somehow ironic that raping an African maid makes a man unfit to be President of the French Republic but invading an African country is completely within your rights. For the record, I do think that insofar as we are cursed to be ruled, it would be better if our rulers were not trashy hotel-maid rapists, but at the same time, I want to point out that, for instance, while neither George W. Bush nor Barack Obama has ever to the best of our knowledge raped a maid, they collectively ordered the deaths of thousands and thousands of people. Nicolas Sarkozy has not to the best of my knowledge ever raped a maid; he's just, you know, started a war in Africa and left a bunch of refugees to die in a boat in the Mediterranean. Recall the adage about how criminality is really a matter of scale: kill one man, you're a murderer; kill one thousand, you're a hero. That sort of thing. You know who else never raped a maid? Hitler, that's who. I probably should have posted a "trigger warning" on this one, huh? I just . . . I mean, can we all stop pretending that we are shocked and stupefied that a powerful Western politician is a violent predatory psychopath? It sorta, like, goes with the territory.

Give me a maid and I'll rape for a day...no, wait that joke doesn't work.

I guess to be fair, he might have assumed at #K/night the maid was included in the minibar.

We're not shocked that he's a violent sociopath. We're shocked that, given the sweet, sweet gravy train he'd managed to latch onto, he got himself caught.

Leonard said...

But seriously, surely Monsieur understands that the logic of democracy selects for leaders who are, in appearance, altruists. Altruists, but only with respect to their electorate: everyone else can suck eggs. So: machinegunning babies is no knock at all if your voters think you did it for them. Thus, most democratic politics turns into spin-fests. We really are killing Libyans for the oil, ultimately, but that's a bit too selfish, innit? So, we're killing them to save their lives.

The thing about sexual peccadillos is exactly that you cannot spin them as anything other than what they are: selfish sociopathic crimes. There is no scenario in which politician A rapes maid B for the benefit of voter C.

In future, perhaps technology will advance sufficient that a politician's rapes can be recorded and given out to the electorate to experience. And then, presto, we'll see the justifications begin, how "she was frigid and needed it", "we're raping her to save her", "her cunt yearns for freedom", or whatever.

I was surprised when I heard DSK's surname pronounced on tv - when reading it, I'd been hearing it in my mind's ear as two words, each given full weight and time - and instead, froggy style, it turns out they half-swallow it.

As to "if he's so rich, how come he doesn't use an elite escort service?" - well, I guess it might be the RAPE he enjoys, not just the sex.

Unless this is all a frame-up by his enemies - that's a possibility, I guess.

Vive la indifference.

I doubt Hitler even had a maid. Did you see how messy he left that bunker?

Mistah Charley, former NY Governor Elliot Spitzer did in fact use an elite escort service. Though things worked out better for him than they could work out for Strauss-Khan, as he only lost his job, so your advice is probably good.

Mike Whitney at Counterpunch makes a strong argument that DSK is NOT an evil banker, and was framed for that reason:

http://www.counterpunch.org/whitney05162011.html

Incidentally, its increasingly hard to evaluate the truth of these things, because all of our information comes from leaks and rumors planted by interested parties. And we've learned the hard way that you can't just take American municipal police departments at their word about allegations of criminal behavior.

Oh for fuck's sake, the narrative of the innocent insider is not only insidiously stupid, it's stupidly insidious.

This conspiracism rests on the premise that Strauss-Kahn - an allegedly known pinko - was hand selected to manage the IMF, as capitalist and punitive an organization as the late Westphalian states have ever conjured, despite being an open and out pinko friend of labor.

It's such a stupid idea that it does damage to the value of the word stupid, as an adjective.

Strauss-Kahn was selected to run the IMF. Just roll that around in your heads. To run the bankers' primary instrument for securing the debt of the third world. To run their fucking international money laundering operation. The outfit which put Wolfowitz at the helm of the World Bank.

This is like Chris Hedges' latest - where Cornel West "discovers" that Barack Obama was tricked by Rahmbo into becoming a really bad dude.

Instead of just accepting, all along, that shitheels like Obama and likely rapist Strauss-Kahn get these jobs because they want them and they expect to be compensated for doing the dirty work, whilst smiling for the cameras.

Strauss-Kahn, like Bammy, put a good face on repressive austerity. He's the guy who managed the breaking of Greece. Abusively.

Don't fucking mistake the kayfabe for real sentiment.

I hope Dominique Strauss-Kahn realizes that he didn't just lose a maid, he's going to have a very difficult time finding quality applicants for the vacant position. I'm also surprised that he didn't have a rape clause in the contract with the maid. He needs some new lawyers.

Anonymous said...

I haven't read the comments or anything, I just want to clarify something: nothing's been proven yet. You can call DSK a rapist all you want it seems just as likely the maid may have (please note this is just an assumption and does not represent my stance on the subject) seen an opportunity for easy money in accusing a powerful man of rape. Don't tell me that's never happened. Especially in America. It just seems to me people are quick to jump to conclusions. I'm not saying he's innocent though don't get me wrong, it just seems too early to tell.

The odd thing is that Hitler's mother, or was it grandmother, a young Fraulien Schicklegruber was a maid and it is said was indeed raped by her employer. One of the many Rothschild residing in Austria at the time. This is why Adolph might have been a bit touchy about his "racial purity". And subsequent removal of birth records from certain burgess in Austria by the SA. But then maid rape; it's not just for breakfast anymore.

Just to sharpen IOZ's point I recently read a paper whose first section is titled, "A brief history of rape in Haiti." It proceeds to trace the high prevalence of sexual violence in Haitian society to the Duvalier dictatorship, which used rape as a tool of state along with detention, torture, exile and execution. During the revanchist Cedras dictatorship this practice of systematic, punitive rape was revived.

Unnecessary to underscore for this crowd whose Cold War ally Duvalier was, or who bankrolled Cedras. Moral of the story: rapists get jail time, employers of rapists get presidential libraries.

And all they had to do all these years was ask the mighty IOZ, the magnificent Nee-chee of the Three Rivers junction, always philosophizing with a hammer (and with great destructive demonic joy no less) about DSK. And IOZ would've told them, "Of COURSE he's a serial violent sexual aggressor. HE'S THE HEAD OF THE IMF. DUH."

A rebel commander said Marziali was killed in an accidental discharge of a weapon as he was arguing about his team getting arrested. A statement from the rebels’ transitional government Friday said four Frenchmen with Marziali were arrested for alleged “illicit activities that jeopardized the security of free Libya.”
