Smartypants progressive cockjobbers love to tell the world how the Koch Bros ran a train on Rupert Murdoch and nine months later a little Tea Baby forced its way past his Everest-sized prostate and writhed out of his withered urethra, setting about the gaudy task of duping poor whitetrash idiots in flyoverland to act against their own best interests. Needless to say, the first part of this is actually true, but, as previously observed, the Tea Party wasn't created to dupe Tea Partiers; the Tea Party was created to dupe cretins like George Monbiot.

You are correct, but only in a sense.
The tea party was created from authentic grass roots anger, by authentic grass roots action. In that, you're wrong. Certainly it was helped by the meager media empire of the right, but it is an authentic populist movement. Compared to the self-interested astroturfing which defines the popular left, the tea party is big stinking cow pasture.
Where you're right is that, functionally speaking within our progressive "democracy", the tea party's main effect is indeed as a bogeyman to the progressives. That is because in reality, the tea party is a sort of outer party to the outer party. But the inner party has no idea it is the inner party -- to the progressive, foul populism is always poised to strike, voting for creationism in the schools, banning abortion and the enslavement of women, and fiscal responsibility.
Leonard, you are correct, but only in the sense that a cow pasture and the tea party are both full of shit.
Whoa-whoa-whoa... put the blade to the stone on that hiatus of yours.
Got yourself a ripe ole' edge, sweet babe.
