Truly, I don't understand liberals. I suppose if you believe there is something called journalism, that it is practiced on the teevee, and that it represents some kind of crucial epistemic advancement in the human understanding of its own collective mind-state . . . but fuck, man, getting upset that some politician's spawn got a job on the nightly news is like getting upset that Will Smith's brat got cast in a shitty remake of Karate Kid.

Consider the source. Is there anything more ironic than Obama supporters that make fun of "the Right"?
Nytimes Kinsey gaffe of the day:
"One person close to Ms. Clinton said she had been quietly raising her profile for some time, though the public had not been completely aware of it."
Jazzy Jeff is the new Danielson!?
Yes, I am sure junior Ms. Clinton does desire to "make a difference" -- progspeak for "wield power". (For how does one make a difference? You must first capture the power to make it.) And what a match for NBC! A future President works here.
IOZzy, it's not just a favor for the sitting Sec of State and ex-Pres -- although that must certainly be a good part of the motivation, and makes the play that much more obvious. It's also that Clinton Jr. herself is gonna be powerful, if she will only reach out to take power. (And given her background, it would be surprising if she did not it. What else does she know?)
A quick look at youtube shows Clinton can speak in public, more or less, and she has or can fake the other graces of the demotic politician -- self confidence, self deceit, working lines, shaking hands, etc. Really the only question is does she have the fire in the belly?
chelsea seems more suited for the political stage than caroline kennedy did
the clintons are our post-modern medicis
re Karate Kid - I saw the original again last year. It still worked for me on a feeling level, but the martial arts was less plausible to my older eye.
The remake with young Smith and Jackie Chan got three out of four stars from Tom Keogh in the Seattle Times last year. He said, in part:
The new film's updates are all to interesting purpose. Smith's Dre Parker, a Detroit-based child sans father, suddenly finds himself in China, where his mom (notable work by Taraji P. Henson) has been transferred in her job.
Soon after, Dre is beaten, repeatedly, by thuggish boys schooled in fighting by an abusive instructor named Li (Rongguang Yu). Rescued by Han, a misanthropic maintenance man, Dre agrees to fight Li's punks in a tournament.
Thus begins Dre's training under a reluctant Han, who teaches that kung fu is not a weapon but an embrace of life and energy. Director Harald Zwart capitalizes on the handsome, Chinese backdrop, sometimes to cheesy travelogue effect but more importantly when Han leads Dre to witness kung fu marvels on a mountaintop.
The script's inevitable parallels to pivotal moments in Avildsen's film are all well-considered. Han's weirder directives to Dre might not be as fun as those wacky, car-waxing scenes from the original, but the thrilling fight choreography emerging from them is really something to behold.
Similarly, the crucial revelation of Han's tragic back story is quite different from Miyagi's. But the lyrical action scene that results — further bonding Han and Dre — is this "Kid's" emotional high point.
Dude, I'm not sure how to take your analogy, because that shitty remake of Karate Kid is no laughing matter. Exhibit B: "hair whipping back and forth." The Smith nepotistic threat is for real.
like getting upset that Will Smith's brat got cast in a shitty remake of Karate Kid.
This happened!?
FUCK NO!!!!!!
wrong honk!!!
Give it a little while. Within a year Cole and his fellow cretins will be fawning over how Chelsea advances "our" side by emphasizing certain verbs and adjectives.

What are you blathering about? Shouldn't a liberal prefer society organized on the basis of people's ability to do well at Harvard than to one in which the power to move consumption patterns (a.k.a. teevee face time) is inherited?
Funny, I consider myself to be liberal and yet don't understand it either.
Because sometimes something stupid and trivial can hit you at just the wrong time and place and be the last fucking straw, like the bratty little girl razzing Donald Sutherland at the end of "Day of the Locust."
On the other hand, my actual response is, "Why are you watching that shit to begin with?"
Pshaw---like Luke Russert and Peter Doocy, Chelsea Clinton was chosen on merit.
The "Karate Kid" remake (produced by one "China Film Group") was a tour de force of Bad America, Good China propaganda. We begin in a dark, rainy Detroit where half the buildings are shuttered and abandoned and the malaise is palpable. It goes without saying that the Chinese divisions of international auto firms are always headhunting for thirty-something African-American factory moms, whose world-class talents are underpaid and under-utilized in the moribund States.
So they're moved expenses-paid to a green, sunny Beijing suburb where few drive, where no one smokes indoors and outdoors (instead of everyone), and where the family can be lectured about wasteful American energy habits (Mom expects the shower water to be hot 24/7!). Cultural differences eventually are heartwarmingly overcome, and China looks anything but like a place where a new coal-burning plant opens every week. We Should Learn From Them.
What LP Steve said.
Still not half as offensive as Minka Brzenzski.
Motherfuck, and there's some dood over there named Nutella giving me a bad name... Well, a different kind of bad name.
Anon,
There's a difference between being liberal and being a liberal.
Though I'm surprised that even someone from the latter group would be all up in arms about this. Have the Clintons fallen out of favor with team blue or something?
For high school, Zbiggy's daughter went to the Madeira School in McLean, VA, where tuition is currently $35k (plus books, athletic fees, etc.) "The Madeira School celebrated the installation of new Head of School, Pilar Cabeza de Vaca, on Saturday, September 25, 2010. Ms. Cabeza de Vaca has previously led schools in Paris, France and Quito, Equador."
Cool. She'll be doing human interest stories. I find it uplifting to hear about non-whiners who've overcome the odds.
Can't wait to learn about the polio survivors who married, adopted thirty kids, and knit wool socks for the boys fighting overseas, all on the income of an aluminum can scavenger.
Pilar Cabeza da Vaca! Awesome. I look forward to the appointment of Federico Nalgas de Caballo as president of Harvard.
Brzezinski was broadcasting live from the scene when the South Tower collapsed.
Coincidence?
"the clintons are our post-modern Medicis" I assure you no Medici would be caught dead in a pant-suit.
i withdraw the "post-modern medicis" remark - i was too attracted by the alliteration
Off topic, from the Times' breathless story recounting the derring-do in Zuccotti Park this morning:
"And so began the minutely planned, almost military-style operation to remove those who had been camping in downtown Manhattan for two months."
I really dig that "almost."
FINALLY, someone with the balls to discuss a raging injustice which the lamestream media will never talk about* - Will Smiths kid was set up to be in that horrible movie because hollywood is afraid of a Black Planet!!! Fight the Power!!
* This topic did recive extensive coverage and rigorous debate at Huffington Post.
Politicians' spawn.
..jeez, Mz Chelsea could maybe set her sights a little higher? hell, i kinda figured she'd do something awesome, break out of mum an' da's shadow. first Methodist Pope maybe?
But don't you understand, IOZ, that if we fall behind the ChiComs in the ruthless mass-production of the most efficient bullshitters, there could emerge a bullshit-gap!?
TGGP -
"ChiCom's" ????
