I will indulge this much American exceptionalism: truly, we have built a system to make all the kings and tyrants, party bosses and generalissississimi and primates inter pares and dukes and princess and chiefs and big men over all the ages of mankind weep with jealousy; no hereditary pageantry nor coronation nor victory parade nor one-party election can compete with the multi-billion dollar spectacle of an American presidential election season, its endless lefthand turn toward an identical indycar conclusion, one selfsame auto beating another, a few weird diehards talking pit strategy, the restuvus enjoying the occasional fiery pileup along the way. A vast spectacle of competition ripping ever-faster toward a foregone conclusion, a breadbowl circus lathered in Applebees Smokey Barbeque Honey Bacon Strudel Pepper Spice Chipotle Doritos Rub by Bobby Flay. So what if only forty percent of viewers actually tune into the show? Not even Navy Seal Advocate Investigation Factor: Special Idol Brigade gets those sorts of ratings. Even those who don't participate get vaguely caught up in the proceedings; a self-consuming nuclear fireball of utter inanity through which one of several psycho clowns becomes warden for a few swiftly-expiring years before the whole thing is recharged, refueled, and rerun. Ours is not so much a political economy as a syndicated series.

OK, but don't you think it's pretty significant that Santorum almost won Iowa?
Oh, yeah? Read this:

I'm the furthest thing from a donklebot, but I gotta say, I don't think Obama is as nuts as that cat, or anyone who would take him seriously. Perhaps I just haven't lived long enough.
"Ours is not so much a political economy as a syndicated series."
Excellent and original observation, Msieur.
And even better, it's reversible, like any good vest:
"Ours is not so much a political economy as a serial syndicate."
{I'm thinking here of "syndicate" in the sense of "Murder Inc", whose crimes pale in comparison to those of the crime bosses who've rotated in and out of the White House for the past 200 years.]
APPLEBEE’s BARBECUE SAUCE
(Women’s Day, 1998)
1 cup ketchup
¼ cup cider vinegar
¼ cup dark-brown sugar or honey
3 Tbs Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp liquid smoke
½ tsp salt
¼ cup minced onion (optional)
Mix ingredients, bring to boil, reduce heat and simmer uncovered 30-45 minutes or until onion is soft and sauce slightly reduced.
What I like about the presidential election is watching the most abhorrent power junkies on the planet try to act straight in public for about a year. See that baby being snuggled by the candidates for the video feed? Their first urge is to drain its blood.
Shiny, Monsieur.
The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court stands behind the candidate on inauguration day, holding above his head a golden crown, whispering "Respice, hominem te memento."
Excellent.
It's significant that 32,000 god-botherers can make such big waves, but hardly surprising that an odious dimwit could motivate them.
I like the Bill Hicks version, Professor: they sit the new president down in a dark room and show him footage of the Kennedy assassination, from angles he's never seen.
And if we're done with bell curves can we do physiognomy next? Because surely Santorum has barely any depth perception with his eyes that close together.
"Because surely Santorum has barely any depth perception with his eyes that close together."
Speaking of "hominem ad canem" sex, Gridlock, I was once in love with an inbred collie with very close-set eyes.
But, but, it's the most important election evah!
Shit, I was looking forward to a Bachmann administration, now I'm just salivating at the prospect that a frothy mix of lube, semen and fecal matter will be our next overlord.
Yeah lucid, me too - I woulda loved to be able to think of Marcus and Michelle doin the "Bachmann overdrive" in the Lincoln bedroom ...
3rd line, "princess". Doritos Rub 2012!
I didn't mind when Bachmann got the First Impression Rose---that rarely pans out---but I fear that Romney is not Here For The Right Reasons. Still, it's been an amazing journey.

Watch out IOZ, Tanya has the key and is taking ovar
"Ovar", Enron?
Is Tanya a modern-day Madame Bovar?
And whose is she taking?
Should Anne be worried?
err...Tabitha
Hey IOZ - there's a rumor going around that you're really Katrina vanden Heuvel letting her hair down, and doing a little outside the box intellectual wilding ...
Care to confirm or deny ?
Wow, before the semicolon I thought this post was going in a much more "multi-century hemispherical/global hegemony" sort of direction.
I disagree that they're ALL jealous, I mean, Lukashenko almost certainly is perfectly fine with the rigged elections that keep giving him 80+ percent of the vote.
Can we start a pool on next POTUS then? At least there'll be some investment in the unavoidable news story of the year then, and we can pretend to care. Inkberrow gets Ron Paul.
When was the last time a sitting VP gave way after one term? Obama/Clinton 2012!
Oh and I'm secretly Piers Morgan letting my hair down
Offs topic:
Anybody read the NatGeo article on, purportedly, the last remaining hunter-gatherers? Its tangential relation is that they're the purist anarchists that exist, probably.

purportedly, the last remaining hunter-gatherers
are there no non-agricultural tribes in New Guinea?
OK - costume-party's ON!
I'm coming as Christine, the SoupDuJour.
Yea and on a side note I would like to thank the contributions Reality Television has made. Thanks, "Cops."
Bad boys, bad boys! Whatcha gonna do, whatchya gonna do when they vote for you?
Given the title of this entry I must offer the following:

Apropos of nothing, lemme say that RP strongly reminds me of Mikhail Ivanovich Kalinin.
Capt'n Obvious
Also as mentioned previously by someone on this here blog, consider the trillions allegedly at stake vs. the puniness of the budget allocated by AmerikaCo to the electoral farce.
The Kapital don't even have to pretend to care.
Capt'n Obvious
One of yer better ones, IOZ. Thanks.
" Navy Seal Advocate Investigation Factor: Special Idol Brigade " ????? !!!!!
Is the renowned all-around culture maven Monsieur IOZ, the same IOZ who posts utubes of cantatas and arias from little-known cult labels, subliminally admitting that he watches NCIS as WELL as Burn Notice?
(We already know he watches Burn Notice because he's admitted to being a Bruce Campbell fan ...)
TEBOW ASCENDANT PRAISE JEEBUS
STILLERS GOING HOME
U MAD IOZ?
Sorry 'bout your stillers... My Giants are still around though.
